About me

I am Marine VIGNEAU, a professional genealogist and family historian based in France, working with clients in France and abroad.

I hold a Master’s degree in History, with an academic background focused on archival research, archeology, paleography, critical analysis of sources and historical methodology. My training and professional experience have shaped an approach grounded in documentation, context and rigorous interpretation of records.

I have been practising genealogy and archival research for several years, working directly with primary sources in public and private archives. My work focuses in particular on complex family histories shaped by migration, exile, disrupted archives and succession-related situations.

Genealogy, as I practise it, is not simply about collecting names. It is about understanding family structures, historical contexts and the meaning of documents, especially when sources are fragmented, dispersed or difficult to interpret.

About my work

I carry out family genealogy research in France and internationally, reconstructing lineages and family branches through civil, parish, notarial, military and judicial archives. All conclusions are based on verified primary sources and cross-checked evidence.

A significant part of my work involves Jewish genealogy and diaspora research. These projects often require navigating disrupted archival collections, name changes, multilingual records and international sources. They demand both technical expertise and a careful understanding of historical and cultural contexts.

I also conduct biographical and memorial research, focusing on individual life paths and family histories that deserve to be documented, understood and transmitted with care. These projects often go beyond genealogy alone and require a sensitive, historically grounded approach.

In the context of succession-related matters, I carry out genealogical research aimed at identifying, locating or verifying heirs. This work is strictly factual and documentary in nature. I do not provide legal advice, but my research may support individuals, legal professionals or institutions involved in succession processes.

In addition, I undertake targeted archival research, document analysis, transcription and translation of complex records, including documents written in French, English, German, Polish, Hebrew or Yiddish.

Languages

I work with sources and clients in French and English, and regularly handle archival material in German and Polish, as well as Hebrew and Yiddish for specific genealogical and memorial research projects.

Method and professional framework

Each project begins with an initial discussion to assess the situation, clarify expectations and determine the feasibility and scope of the research. My work is based on transparency, documented sources and a clear methodological framework.

I work independently and within an ethical and legal framework appropriate to genealogical and historical research. My role is to establish documented facts and historical context. It does not extend to legal consultation or representation.

Fees are determined on a case-by-case basis, according to the nature and complexity of the project, following this initial assessment.

Also, I am a member of a French professional association of genealogists and work in accordance with its ethical standards. My work in Jewish genealogy is supported by active involvement in specialist genealogical circles and research networks.
